There are lots of ways to volunteer for LAOC. Attorneys can take cases for full representation, volunteer at clinics, or volunteer to represent clients in a limited scope capacity in the early case management process for family law cases. There are many ways that non-attorneys and students can get involved too. LAOC trains people to serve as advocates who answer questions on the landlord tenant hotline, fluent speakers of languages other than English offer volunteer interpreting skills, and several non-attorneys serve as members of LAOC’s Board of Directors.

The Landlord Tenant Hotline volunteer opportunity:

Training: 1.5 hour training video with follow along Power Point Presentation and information
Practice Calls: 30 minutes max with Call sheet information and resources. Detailed depiction of resources (helpful for all, but mainly for anyone who may not reside in Olmsted County).
Landlord Tenant Hotline: Each call is anywhere from 5-15 minutes, depending on the information provided. Calls are answered on your available time at least every 24 hours. (Many people answer calls in the evening, after their regular jobs)  Average of 5-7 calls per week. Commitment is from Monday through Sunday of any week. Hotline phone available to return calls if you live in Rochester area.
