LACBA Counsel for Justice AIDS Legal Services Project

Organization Description

Over a million Americans are living with HIV disease, at least 60,000 in Los Angeles County alone. Our clients represent the most marginalized populations in our community - as they face the stigma of poverty, race and immigration status, as well as the stigma around their sexual orientation, sexual identity and of the disease itself. Consequently, in addition to facing a myriad list of medical and social service needs, many HIV+ people also face a host of legal issues as well, ranging from the traditional "poverty law" challenges of eviction defense and public benefit denials, to cutting edge civil rights issues involving discrimination and denial of care.

ALSP provides free direct legal services to low-income people living with HIV & AIDS throughout Los Angeles County on a wide range of issues including employment, HIV discrimination, insurance benefits, tax, estate planning, and debt relief.
