Florida Bar Appellate Section Pro Bono Committee

The Florida Bar Appellate Section Pro Bono Committee takes referrals for pro bono appeals from appellate courts, legal aid organizations, private attorneys, and litigants. Pro bono clients are screened by Florida Legal Services before a request is sent to a list of pro bono attorney volunteers for consideration. All pro bono attorney volunteers must be members of the Appellate Section in order to be included on the list. We also mentor Legal Aid attorneys needing assistance on their appeals, and mentors are available for private pro bono attorneys as well. Finally, we conduct CLEs on appellate issues for legal aid organizations around the state. Please note that we do not handle criminal appeals or contingency fee appeals.

Most of the appellate opportunities offered by the pro bono committee can be completed remotely. Volunteer attorneys can see the available cases, review the record on appeal, and prepare and file briefs without ever leaving their home or office. Litigants can also contact and speak to attorneys remotely, via phone or email.
