North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services is a non-profit legal services firm, contracted with the Office of Indigent Defense Services (IDS), NCPLS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit law firm, created to provide inmates who are in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Safety, Division of Adult Correction with their constitutional right of meaningful access to the courts, pursuant to Bounds V. Smith.  Staff attorneys and paralegals at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services work to evaluate the criminal convictions of those who are currently incarcerated to determine whether there were any legal errors made.

 

North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services, Inc. regularly hosts law students during the school year and summer months.  Students are able to come and support NCPLS attorneys in diverse areas such as research and writing, interviewing clients in North Carolina jails and prison facilities, and attending court hearings.
